Check Out Your AC Before Summer

After the winter, you might be looking forward to the beauty of summer. What you may not be looking forward to is the heat of summer. This means that you need to check your air conditioner and make sure that it is ready to go when the weather heats up. There are several things that you can do, including calling an AC repair service to check on your air conditioning to make sure that it is ready to go. So, what are some of the things that you can do?

Safety First

It's important that you keep your personal safety as your first priority. Having a working air conditioner isn't going to be a good trade-off for you hurting yourself. Make sure that you turn the air conditioner off at the circuit breaker so that there is no power running to it. If it is a window unit, then you should unplug it from the wall. You want to make sure that there is no power running through the unit.

Clear the Debris

You should make sure that you get any dirt and debris away from the outdoor unit. Doing that will make sure that it will work well. This can be accomplished by inspecting the unit and picking out any twigs, sticks, trash, or whatever else may have fallen into the unit. If you want to make sure that there really is no dirt in the unit, then you can take your hose and spray it down. You don't want to use a high-pressure washer because it could cause some damage, but your typical hose should be just fine. Spray from the top down, and try to get the spray as perpendicular as possible. Make sure that the outside weather is not going to go below the freezing mark because you don't want the unit to freeze.

Test the Unit

You also want to do a simple test to make sure that the unit is actually going to turn on and you are going to get some cold air out of it. All you need to do is to go to your thermostat and set it so that it will trip the air conditioner to turn on. You don't need for it to be on long enough to completely cool your house, you just need it to be on long enough for you to know that you have cold air coming out of your vents.

If you are worried about your air conditioner or you want to have professionals handling the pre-summer check, call an AC repair company and have them give you a visit.
